The Appalachian Trail crosses New York near Delaware Water Gap. A Northern Forest Canoe Trail connects into Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. A bike path runs east west across the state on the Erie Canal. The Long Path connects the Adirondacks, Catskills, Delaware Water Gap, AT, and New York City. The 133 mile Northville-Placid Trail runs north south across the Adirondacks. The North Country National Scenic Trail in New York is mostly on Finger Lakes tread, but to connect with the Adirondacks uses the Link Trail, Erie Canal State Park, the Black River Canal, and the Black River Feeder Canal. The Finger Lakes Trail System and the NCT connect the four corners of Upstate New York with about 1,000 miles of treadway. Continue straight through the intersection, walking again along the Wallkill River as you make your way back to your car.Finger Lakes 2017 Home Previously: Pennsylvania's Mid State Trail Finger Lakes Trail The railroad grade turns right, continues another 0.25 miles, and departs to the right, winding back to that initial open intersection. Eventually the trail departs right and away from the river, taking you onto an abandoned railroad grade that the wilderness has reclaimed as a beautiful, canopied path. It’s a lollipop loop hike and completely flat, so it really doesn’t matter which way you turn here, but I usually turn left to continue walking beside the Wallkill. About a quarter mile in, you’ll reach an open intersection.

Hike Directions: From the trailhead parking area, take the open dirt packed trail as it runs parallel to the Wallkill. Make a right here, and continue to the trailhead parking lot on the eastern side of the Wallkill River (on the right side of the road).

Continue straight through the traffic light in Pine Island to Oil City Road. Trailhead Directions: From Warwick, take County Route 1 to Pine Island.
